I decided to bring up this question after in interesting conversation I had with a fanduber. No one in this particular dub. But it made me curious. The fanduber I was speaking with said that they consider "pitching" your voice or using a program to make it more high pitched or more low pitched was "cheating" in the fandub community.
It made me wonder what the rest of the fandub community thought of this? What is their stance on this subject. Because frankly I never really thought about it. Of course there may be some characters you would HAVE to pitch because their voices are inhuman or unnatural. But they said some people abuse pitching and that if you have to pitch certain voices then it's because you lack talent.
Here I beg to differ. For instance no matter how much I change or modify my voice in audacity I could never voice a good Quina. I just cannot relate to Quina on any level what so ever. It takes a very special person to relate to Quina's character and understand Quina's struggles or Quina's background story. So my attempt to voice Quina would just end up sounding too forced.
It's this way for me with many characters.
Anyways that's my personal take on the issue of voice modification in the fandub community. What is yours?

I feel like the acting is the most important part regardless. Like, if you can make your voice sound like a chipmunk on your own, power to you, but that won't matter if you can't act. Hehe, I guess that makes sense, right? ^o^;
And you is a general sense of the word - I don't mean 'you', Janneson! I'm sure you're a terrific actor! <3
