[The scene changes to an incredible table full of food. Steiner and Dagger are standing on one side, Vivi and Freya on the other, and Zidane and Regent Cid are standing at opposite ends of the table]

"Yay! I'm so hungry!"

"The Festival of the Hunt feast is one of our oldest traditions. It began well over five centuries ago."
"It is customary to eat everything with your hands, so go on, before it gets cold."

Dagger
"Thank you, Uncle."

[Steiner, Cid, and Vivi dig in]

Vivi
"Mmmm! It's so good!"

Freya
"......"

Zidane
"Let's just eat. We can't do anything until the gate opens."

Freya
"...You're right."

[Zidane and Freya start eating]

Zidane
"Hey, not bad!"

Steiner
"This is wonderful! Princess, how is everything?"
"Why aren't you eating?"

Dagger
"Oh... I'm sorry."
"You're right. Everything is so delicious."
[She starts eating]

Steiner
"Indeed, it is. Especially this beef. It is superb!"

[Everyone eats for a few seconds]

"Oh, I'm so full. I'm getting sleepy now..."

[Vivi, Freya, and Cid fall asleep]

"What the - THE FOOD IS POISONED!"

[Zidane falls asleep]

[Dagger walks over to Zidane]

[Steiner and Dagger leave]

[Everyone wakes up except Vivi]

"It must've been some sort of sleeping medicine."

"It was sleeping weed."

"We've been had..."

"I gave her some because she said she was having problems sleeping."

"I'm impressed. There's more to her than meets the eye."

"Damn, what the heck is she thinking!? Maybe she's heading to Burmecia."

"Then you might still be able to catch up with her."

Zidane
"Vivi, wake up! We're going to Burmecia!"

Freya
"Let's head for the Gizamaluke's Grotto. Once we pass through the grotto, we will be in Burmecia."

Regent Cid
"You can leave from the Dragon's Gate, located on the Base Level <gwok>."

[Zidane and company use the lift to descend to the Base Level, then travel to the Dragon's Gate, exiting it, leaving Lindblum, and returning to the World Map]
[The group arrives at a marsh, eventually encountering a Qu—yes! That Qu!]

"Hungry..."
"Frogs..."

[You catch a frog, then speak to this character again]

"You got frog!"
"Frogs very good! Mmmm!"

Zidane
"Who the heck are you?"

Quina
"Me?"
“Quina.”

"Quina, do you want this frog?"

"Yes, yes!"
"Yes, yes!"

[Quina received a frog]

[Someone else, garbed in a chef's hat like Quina, walks onto the screen]

"You pathetic, Quina. Can't even feed yourself."

[The screen fades to black, and fades back in inside Quale's house]

"Can't master art of eating just chasing frogs, Quina."

"But, Master, frogs very good!"
"Frogs here best! Better than Alexandria's."

"Quina, you in darkness. Need some light."
"World big place. Many many foods."
"Alexandria just one kingdom. You need go out more, eat other food."

"Go out into world...? Sound scary. Are there yummier frogs outside?"

"Of course! Many good frogs!"
"All Qus love frogs best. Eating frogs is key to growth."
"Qu marshes exist all over world."
"Go eat frogs in other marshes. I promise, you get much learning."
[Quale turns to Zidane]
"Traveler, please show Quina the world."
"Anywhere with food good."

"You want me to take him with us?"

"Will I find yummier frogs outside?"

"There is plenty of stuff in the world that tastes better than frogs."

[Vivi and Zidane walk out of Quale's house]

"What's up, Vivi?"

"That man looks exactly like my grandpa."

"I'm gonna go talk to him, Zidane."

[Vivi and Zidane enter the building again]

"What wrong? Something on my face?"

Vivi
"Um... Do you know a man named Quan?"

"...I not know that bigot!"

"Grandpa Quan was a bit strange, but... How do you know him?"

Vivi

[Zidane and Vivi leave. Before exiting, Vivi turns around to get one final look at Quale. After exiting Quale's house, with Quina now in your party, you exit Qu's Marsh and continue to Gizamaluke's Grotto]
[The group eventually makes its way to Gizamaluke's Grotto. Those two words appears at the top of the screen in large letters, as thunder is heard. Freya walks forward, and sees two guards on the ground]

"No...!"
[She kneels beside one]
"Come on! Get up!"
[She kneels beside the other one]
"Dammit! Say something!"

Zidane
"Oh, man..."

Freya
"The black mages! Who are they!?"

Vivi
"U-Um..."

Zidane
"It's okay. You didn't do anything."

Freya
"Vivi, aren't they your - "
"!!!"
"The king might be in danger!"
"Come on!"
[Freya runs into the Grotto]

Zidane
"I sure hope Dagger didn't come here..."
"Let's go."

[Inside the Grotto, you need to talk to a wounded soldier and receive a bell to open the door to the next room]

"Hey, are you alright!?"

"...Black mages... Couldn't do anything."

Zidane
"We're here to help. We're on our way to Burmecia."

[Zidane enters the next room, where three black mages attack a wounded Burmecian soldier, each black mage shouting "KILL!". Zorn and Thorn enter the room and jump once, in unison, before walking near the front of the room. Zidane enters and they stop]

"Who is that?"

"That, I don't know."

"I know I have seen him somewhere before."

[Two black mages jump down. Battle begins, your team vs. those two. After defeating them, Zorn and Thorn are frightened]

[Mogmi runs up to the bell]

[bursts out from under the bell, tipping it over in the process]

[He runs off]

[She runs after him]

"What a crazy couple..."

[Zidane gets a bell from a chest, and, enters another room; door opening, bell shattering. In this room is the moogle couple you helped out]

“I love Kupo Nuts!”
“Do you like Kupo Nuts?”

Zidane
“…Yes.” (Forced)

“I want more Kupo Nuts!”

"Thanks again!"
"Now we can go on our honeymoon!"

“There’s a letter from Moodon! It’s probably a letter of congratulations on our marriage! Let’s read it! Kupo!”

“This year’s Festival of the Hunt was sooo exciting! Kupo! The highest score was 210 points! A guy named Zidane won the title! Last year’s winner, Belna, only got 140 points! Oh, it was so much fun!!!”

“It wasn’t a congratulations letter, but it was fun to read! Kupo!”
[As you try to leave the room, Moguta, the male moogle, stops you]

[jumps in front of a statue]

[jumps again]

"Take this, kupo!"
[Received Holy Bell!]
"Give me Kupo Nuts again, okay, kupo? I'm kupo for Kupo Nuts!"

[You leave the room, pass through another door, and enter a sewer-like area. In there, a guard is sitting down, wounded. Freya runs up to him]

"Are you alright!?"

"Freya... Please be careful..."
"Master Gizamaluke has gone mad. He's being controlled by some strange clowns."

[Out of a tunnel in the wall, a huge serpent dives into the water. Boss battle begins vs. Gizamaluke.]

“Strip away the ground with glistening blades! Thunder!”

Zidane
“Take that and descend back to your watery depths!”

[After defeating him, the four characters are standing around]

"We must hurry! His Majesty is in danger!"
[Screen changes to Steiner, carrying a stick with a bag attached, near a gate. The words "South Gate Grand Citadel" appear on the screen]

Steiner
(Once we cross this gate, we are in Alexandrian territory!)

[Steiner walks forward to the gate, but is stopped by two guards]

Short Guard
"Hold it right there."

Tall Guard
"What's the purpose of your visit?"

Steiner
"I heard workers were needed to fix South Gate."
"I brought my belongings so that I might live and work here."

Tall Guard
"That's great!"
"They've been working on the gate non-stop since the accident, but it's still broken."

Short Guard
"I need to check your bag. Rules and regulations, you know."

Steiner
"......"
[Puts the bag down]

Short Guard
"Would you step back?"

[Steiner steps back]

Tall Guard
"There, that's good. Sorry, just doing our job."
"So... Where are you from?"

Steiner
(Blast, I must do something!)

Tall Guard
"The police are searching for a girl and a middle-aged man. Did you see a pair like that on your way here?"

[The door is opened, and Steiner walks through]

{We're inside the gate! Princess, you've done it again.)
(I must find a spot where I won't be seen.)
[He looks left, then right, and keeps looking right]
(That alley looks acceptable.)
(But a girl and a man are in the way.)
[He goes to talk to the girl]

Part-time Worker Mary
"I can't believe he went out of business..."
"I didn't know, because I was on the other side of the mountain."

Steiner
"What good is it to bemoan what has already happened?"
"Wh-What I meant to say was that... Now that we are here, there must be things we can do to help the ones we love."

Part-time Worker Mary
"You're right. I gotta encourage him."
[She walks away]

(That just leaves the young man over there.)

[Steiner goes to talk to the man]

Chief Engineer
"Welcome! I'm also new here. I've been working here for five months as the chief engineer of Bohden Gate."
"But he's the only one working under me."

[Screen shows a man on the left side of the screen]

"I'll be going back to the castle next month, when my contract expires."
"I'll be joining a team of engineers who are developing a new engine that runs without Mist."
"The world outside the Mist Continent is uncharted territory, but there's no need to worry about our safety if we can explore it on an airship."
"Regent Cid is an advocate of technological advancement."
"Oh, sorry. I've talked your ear off."

[Steiner walks over to the man which the Chief Engineer looked at before]

"This gate breaks down a lot, ‘cause the hinges don't fit very well."
"The road leads to the bottom of the Mist. No one uses it. There's no need to fix it, really."
"So, I just polish up the gate and make it look all nice. That takes care of it for a couple months."
"Hee hee."

Steiner
(You were the reason we couldn't come in through this gate!)
(I must tolerate him for the sake of the princess!)

[Steiner returns to the Chief Engineer]

"Sure, I'd like to leave, but I intend to work hard while I'm here!"

Steiner
"There's something I must tell you."

Chief Engineer
"...The gate to the bottom of the Mist has been left broken!?"
"Did he think he could get away with that!?"

[He runs off]

(The coast is clear.)

[He walks towards the alley]

[Steiner walks to him]

"You need a Gate Pass to reach the South Gate summit."
"I'm leaving it right here. Pick it up after I leave."
"I'd come closer, but you're carrying those stinky pickles! See? I'm leaving it right here!"
[Leaves it on the ground and backs off. Steiner walks up to it]

[Received Gate Pass!]

[Steiner goes to the alley, dropping the bag behind a few stacked boxes]

"Ahem..."

"Steiner...? Is it okay for me to come out?"

Steiner
"Yes!"

Dagger
"Thank you. I will come out now. Please keep an eye out."

Steiner
"Yes!"

[Steiner runs to one end of the alley and keeps a lookout, while Dagger gets out]

"Oh, finally! Some fresh air!"
"What a horrible smell... it gave me a terrible headache."
(Maybe I'll get changed while he's on lookout)

[Dagger changes]

"You can turn around now, Steiner."

Steiner
"Princess...!"

Dagger
"Steiner!"

Steiner
"Yes...? Oh, um, yes, Miss Dagger."

Dagger
"You have to call me Dagger until we reach Treno. Don't salute me, either."

"Yes, until we reach Treno and find a way back to the castle, I will be careful."

[Dagger and Steiner approach a cable car]

[Dagger runs up to the Conductor]

"Will you be boarding Berkmea?"
[Choose between "Board" and "Don't board". Have to board sometime]

"May I see your Gate Pass?"

"Okay!"

Conductor
"Yep, that's the one."
"We can depart right away, if you want."
[Choose between "Depart" or "Not yet". Again, you have to depart sooner or later. So, first choice]
"Alright, then. Please go inside. We'll be departing shortly."

[Dagger and Steiner enter the cable car, and Dagger picks out their seats]

"Let's sit here."

Conductor
"Please wait while I prepare for departure."

Part-time Worker Mary
"Wait! Wait for me!"
"<Pant, pant...> I made it!"
[She walks up to Steiner]
"Thank you for your kind words earlier."

Steiner
"No, I thank you."

Part-time Worker Mary
"?"

Conductor
"Now departing!"

[Mary sits down, and Steiner goes to sit across from Dagger. The cable car takes off]

"Phew... I feel more relaxed now."

Steiner
"That is understandable. Our journey from Lindblum was very tough. But..."
"...it was your white magic that helped me through the battles against all those monsters..."
“…your keen sense of direction that got us to South Gate…”
"...and finally, your idea to use gysahl pickles to get past the South Gate guards!"
"I am thoroughly impressed by your intelligence and courage, Princess!"

Dagger
"Steiner, you can't call me that."

Steiner
"My apologies. I'm just not used to..."

Dagger
"It's okay. I made lots of mistakes when Zidane taught me how to talk like this."

Steiner
"That peasant had no manners whatsoever!"

"The way he spoke to you was simply unacceptable!"

[The scene fades out on them, and returns to Gizamaluke's Grotto, with the four characters, after defeating Gizamaluke, helping a wounded soldier]

"Can you stand up?"

"Please... protect Bur...me..."
[He dies]

Freya
"I will protect Burmecia. You have my word."

[On the way to Burmecia, the group stops at North Gate]

"The smell of fire... And blood!"
"There must have been a huge battle on the other side of that gate..."

"Something smell bad. I get bad feeling!"
"Flower smell good! You smell flower!"

Freya
"...Quina does whatever she feels like doing. I must learn from her ways."

Zidane
"I don't think it's intentional, Freya."

Freya
"No, if I had done as I pleased, I would've been..."

"Zidane, this flower taste good!"

"Let's go! Burmecia is just ahead!"

[The group leaves it and journeys to Burmecia. The sky is dark, and it's raining]

Zidane
"So...this is Freya's home..."
"What are you doing? Get over here."

"It's been five years..."
"I've been away for so long."
"Not a night went by when I didn't dream about home."
"I can't believe I'm here..."
"I am no longer the selfish child I was five years ago."
"The time has come to serve my kingdom as a Burmecian dragon knight once again!"

"I'll do what I can to help!"

"Me, too!"

"I help, too!"

Zidane
"Let's go."

[Everyone except Freya runs into the town. The words "Burmecia Realm of Eternal Rain" appear on the screen]

"What can I do for my kingdom?"
"This is not the time."

[She runs in as well. The group makes its way to the outside of a house, with two open windows, and a balcony under each. Zorn appears on one balcony, followed by Thorn on the other]

Zorn
"It is them again!"

Thorn
"Most persistent, they are!"

Zorn & Thorn
"Black mages!"

[They walk back in, and two black mages walk out]

“KILL!”

[Party vs. Black Mages]

“Take heed, and leave this place!”

“I turn you to tasty nommies!”

“Spark and glow! Thunder!”

[Zorn and Thorn reappear on their respective balconies]

"The general will punish you for this!"

[They both walk out. Zidane and co. eventually make their way to a room with a guard sitting on the floor]

"Ugh..."
"Get the bell...by the bed, and... go to the palace... Protect the king, please..."

[Zidane gets the bell from the bed, and proceeds to the door leading to the castle. You ring the bell, opening the door, and enter a new screen. As Zidane and company walk up a set of stairs, Freya stops him]

"Zidane..."
"Burmecia's royal palace is beyond these steps."
"It must be in ruins, just like everything else. I can't bear to see it like that..."

Zidane
"I understand, but we can't go back now. We have to find out who's behind this."

Vivi
"...I wanna find out who those guys were...and why I look like them."

Zidane
"Look, Vivi's scared, too. But we have to face reality."

Vivi
"Come on, Freya. It'll be okay..."

Freya
"Vivi..."
[kneels before him]
"Do you really know what you're doing?"
"The answer you seek may forever change your life for the worse."

"But I have to... I have to find out who I am..."

[Two adult Burmecians, along with two Burmecian children, run down the steps towards the group]

"You're lying! There's a black mage right behind you!"

"No! I didn't do anything! I would never hurt anyone!"

"He's telling the truth."

"It's good to see you, Dan."

[Dan's wife and children run out]

[Dan runs off]

Freya
"I will protect my home and my king at any cost. Let's go to the palace."

[The group heads to the palace. Inside a room with a giant statue, two people are arguing, one of them sitting on the ground]

Wei
"Come on, dear! We have to go now!"

Kal
"I can't move anymore. Go on without me..."

Wei
"No! I can't do that!"
"Remember that promise we made each other in front of Master Gizamaluke?”
Kal
"How could I forget..."
"But my only wish now is for you and our child to survive."
"Please bear a healthy child, darling. Raise him to be strong."

Wei
"Oh, Kal!"

[Zidane runs in]

Zidane
"It's too dangerous to stay here. You have to escape to Lindblum."
"I'm sure Regent Cid will protect you."

Wei
"But my husband... He was hurt by those black mages. He can't move."
"How can we possibly escape to Lindblum!?"

[The statue begins to shake]

Zidane
"LOOK OUT!"
[Zidane pulls Kal out of the way, just as the statue crashes down]
"Whew, that was close!"

Kal
"Geez... Thanks."

Wei
"Thank you."



Gray
"Wei! Kal! Are you alright!?"

Kal
"Yeah, we survived, somehow."
"Can you give me a hand?"

Gray
"Sure."

[Gray helps him up]

Kal
"Thanks again, pal. Maybe I'll see you again in Lindblum. By then, my kids'll be born. You definitely have to come and see them."

Zidane
"Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Take care."

[The group proceeds to a broken down shop]

Stiltzkin
[enters]
“Well, look who we have here.”
“I was gonna sell you some of my stuff, but you already have everything I’m selling.”

[Group leaves to a shrine]

Freya
“Is there anything here we can use?”
“This spear…”
[takes it out of the statue’s hand]
“It’s pretty light and easy to use.”

Zidane
“Alright, let’s go beat up some black mages!”
[Vivi crouches down sadly]
“Come on. You know I don’t mean you.”

Vivi
[stands]
“I know…”
“But…”
“Never mind…”

Zidane
“Vivi…”
[The group finally makes its way to the entrance of the palace. Statues are destroyed, and it's in ruins. Only problem is, there's no way in]

Zidane
"Geez, this is terrible..."
‘Freya, I'm sorry, but from the looks of this, I don't think the king made it."
"......"
"Vivi, let's go see what's over there."

Freya
"!!!"

[Freya jumps up, in one leap, to the top of the statue, entering the palace]

Freya
"There's someone inside the palace! What are you waiting for? Get up here."

[Freya runs inside]

Zidane
"You make it sound so easy..."
"I guess I'll start here."

[Zidane starts to make his way up the statue]

Zidane
"Come on."

Vivi
"Um...okay."

[Vivi jumps, and falls]

Zidane
"Oh, man."
"I'm gonna go ahead. Try to find a way up here. I'll meet you up top."

Quina
"I meet you after I eat food inside palace!"

[Zidane jumps up to the top of the statue, and joins Freya. They both hide behind a series of statues, and see two people standing inside the palace. One of them is Queen Brahne]

Zidane
"Who is that?"

Freya
"I knew she was behind all this."

Zidane
"What do you mean, you knew?"

Freya
"I decided to return to Burmecia because I heard rumors that Brahne had set her sights on our kingdom." (This statement is a lie)

Zidane
"Then that girl standing next to her must be Beatrix, Alexandria's general."

Freya
"That's Beatrix?"
"The cold-blooded knight who knows no mercy."
"Beatrix..."

[Flashback time. Freya is with Sir Fratley.]

Freya
"Beatrix?"

Sir Fratley
"Yes... Beatrix."
"I hear there are many fierce warriors out in the world - some more powerful than even I..."
"...Beatrix of Alexandria, in particular. They say her swordsmanship is the best in the land."

Freya
"Sir Fratley, do you still insist on going on your journey?"

Sir Fratley
"Yes... Please understand, Freya."
"Right now, Burmecia is at peace, while other nations are slowly but surely gaining power."
"I don't know if my spear alone is enough to protect Burmecia..."
"...which is precisely why I must go out into the world."

Freya
"Sir Fratley...I don't think I can live on my own - not without you."

Sir Fratley
"Freya, you're going to be fine."
"Trust your strength... and have faith in your destiny."
"Once I complete my journey around the world, I will return to Burmecia."

Freya
"Then promise me, one more time, that you will return."

Sir Fratley
"I promise."

[Sir Fratley walks off the screen, as Freya falls to her knees. The screen goes black]

Freya
"Fratley..."
"You never came back..."
"You've left me with nothing except rumors of your death."
"I couldn't believe it!"
"I still won't believe it!"
"Never. Not until I witness proof of your death with my own eyes."
"And I will travel across the world forever if I must..."

[Screen returns to Zidane and Freya]

Zidane
"Are you alright?"

Freya
"Yes."
"I was just thinking... about the past..."

Zidane
"...You still can't get over him, huh?"



Zidane
"Who is that?"

[Screen changes to Brahne, Beatrix, and Kuja]

Kuja
"I find this rain quite pleasant..."
"It feels as though the raindrops are blessing our victory..."

Brahne
"This is a great victory for us. Kuja, your black mages made this conquest so simple."
"My only concern now is finding the King of Burmecia."
"We must take care of him once and for all, and prevent these rats from ever rising up again."
"Beatrix, what's taking so long!?"

Beatrix
"I don't know, Your Majesty. I've ordered Zorn and Thorn to search the perimeter, but there's been no word so far."
"I will join them and lead the search right away."

Kuja
"You're wasting your time."

Beatrix
"What?"

Kuja
"Rats often look for new homes when they sense an earthquake."
"They probably moved to the sandy tree house by now..."
"So, you see, it's too late. The king has already turned tail and fled."

Brahne
"Sandy tree house... Surely, you don't mean Cleyra!?"
"It'll be quite difficult if they escaped to Cleyra."

Beatrix
"Cleyra..."
"Unless we can get through that sandstorm, it will be impossible to attack them."

Brahne
"Sneaky, little rats!"
"Kuja, what do you think? Surely, with your powers, there must be something you can do."

Kuja
"Of course, Your Majesty. I will present you a marvelous display of my power. I am certain that you will be most pleased."
"I was wondering if you would gather your troops near Cleyra."
"I'm certain those filthy rats will retaliate in full force, and my black mages may not be enough."

[Screen changes back to Zidane and Freya]

Zidane
"Sounds like we got trouble."

Freya
"That sinister man... Who is he?"

Zidane
"Beats me... I've never seen him before."
"Well, it sounds like they're going to Cleyra. I've always wondered why people call it the 'City of Illusion.'"

Freya
"I don't know, either. Cleyra has remained in isolation for a hundred years."
"If my people escaped to there, they'll be safe, at least for a while."

Zidane
"What's this place like?"

Freya
"The people of Cleyra are originally from Burmecia."
"Long ago, they severed ties with Burmecia over a trivial conflict."
"Now the kingdom is at peace, shielded by a large sandstorm."



Zidane
"Look, there's someone else coming!"
"Geez, what is he thinking!"

Freya
"He's going to be killed!"

[They both jump down. Scene changes to Brahne and company again]

Burmecian Soldier Zeta
"Burmecia will never fall! Prepare to die!!!"

Beatrix
"You wish to fight me, Beatrix of Alexandria?"

Bumercian Soldier Zeta
"B-Beatrix!?"

Beatrix
"I commend your courage, but I will show you no mercy."

[Freya and Zidane jump down. Beatrix, Brahne, and Kuja turn around to face them]

Zidane
"Hold it!"

Freya
"You'll have to deal with us, first!"
"We'll take care of this. Go find the king. Protect him with your life."

Burmecian Soldier Zeta
"...Thank you, Freya."

[He runs away]

Beatrix
"Ha ha ha. I've never been so humiliated in my life."
"I once killed a hundred knights single-handedly... To me, you two are nothing more than insects."

[Vivi and Quina run up, joining Freya and Zidane. Boss battle begins vs. Beatrix.]

Battle-logue starts

Zidane
“Must I fight someone with such a lovely face?”

Beatrix
“Ha! Thy honeyed tongue worketh nay on me!”

Vivi
“Were you the one… who ordered those black mages to hurt people…?”

Freya
“And set this town ablaze with death?”

Quina
“I not forgive you!”

Beatrix
“Let me quell that foul temper of yours!”
“Legendary sword that slays hundreds! Shock!”
“You’re no match for me!”
“Excalibur! Drive the breath from their lips!”
[Casts Stock Break]
“Ignorant fools.”

Battle-logue ends

[Once the battle is done, the four characters are on the ground, defeated]

Beatrix
"How ridiculously weak..."
"Isn't there anyone who is worthy of facing me?"

Brahne
"Come, Beatrix. We must prepare to attack Cleyra."

Beatrix
"Yes, Your Majesty."

[Brahne and Beatrix walk off screen. Kuja approaches the fallen heroes]

Kuja
"Now, what do we have here...? Another filty rat, and..."
"Hmm... This boy could become a problem..."
